Summer is flying by...I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! We celebrated in Park City, enjoying the traditional downtown parade, catching up with friends, and taking the kids to their first rodeo. Seeing the world through their eyes as they experience new things is always such a treat as a parent.
On August 2nd, I will be riding my 19th Copper Triangle to raise money for Wild Bill’s Warriors, benefiting the Davis Phinney Foundation (DPF) (davisphinneyfoundation.org) and the Illinois Valley Brain Injury (IVBI) Clubhouse. Year after year, this ride has become so important to me and my family as we celebrate and honor my father, “Wild” Bill Halcott. DPF and the IVBI Clubhouse were instrumental in helping my father lead a full life, regardless of his Parkinson’s diagnosis. Wild Bill’s Warriors supports these organizations so they can continue to positively impact others, just as they did for my dad.
This year, I’ve been reflecting on a word that’s at the core of both Parkinson’s and life itself: adaptability.
Serving on the DPF board, I see firsthand how Parkinson’s forces people to adapt daily—learning to move, speak, and approach everyday tasks in new ways. For those living with the disease, adaptability isn’t optional; it’s a lifeline. Wild Bill embodied this spirit. Even as his Parkinson’s progressed, he found ways to keep going, laugh, cherish life—and even ride in the Copper Triangle bike ride! Watching him taught me that adaptability isn’t just about surviving changes; it’s about thriving through them.
The lesson of adaptability has been front and center for our family lately. Marie (8) is embracing bigger adventures in school and sports with confidence. This past spring, she performed in Beauty & the Beast with the local theatre program, and during ski season, she was on the slopes every weekend with her friends and coaches. Next ski season, she’s starting a new challenge and will compete on the Park City Devo Alpine Ski Team. Will (6) set an audacious goal of skiing 100 days last season—and he did it! Evie (4) just wrapped up her first year of preschool, which she absolutely loved. She also just joined the gymnastics tumbling pre team and can’t get enough of it, cartwheeling through our home, doing handstands against the couches and sitting in the splits for a painfully long time. Theo (2) is officially out of the baby stage and into full-on toddler mode, adapting at warp speed to keep up with his siblings—he even took his first unassisted ski turns this season!
Through it all, the Copper Triangle remains a constant. This ride lets me celebrate Wild Bill’s legacy, support the DPF and the IVBI Clubhouse, and share our family’s journey with all of you. These organizations continue to do incredible work: DPF empowers people with Parkinson’s to live well today, and IVBI provides community and purpose for those impacted by brain injuries.
I’ll be riding the 78-mile loop again on August 2nd, and, together, we can make a difference. Every dollar raised goes directly to life-changing programs. If you’d like to donate or learn more, please visit www.wildbillswarriors.org. Your support—whether through a donation, sharing our story, or simply cheering us on—means the world.
Thank you for being part of this journey year after year. Your kindness, generosity, and encouragement remind me what’s possible when we adapt together and keep moving forward.
Let’s BE WILD, stay adaptable, and keep making a difference.
With love and gratitude,
Brandon
